About the Role

As a Data Analytics, you will play a key role supporting Digital Factory projects that fundamentally change BHP’s performance across safety, productivity, and people performance. The Digital Factory is BHP’s approach to rapid design and development of digital products (software-focused, minimal or no hardware) that provide machine learning and model-based solutions to operational challenges that are currently being addressed through manual methods.

At principal level, we are looking for experienced data analytics, or someone looking to make a step-up from a senior level role. The hiring manager is also considering candidates with less experience, but with an excellent attitude to learn and grow.

The work:
The Data Analytics will be critical in the successful development and implementation of a digital platform with analysis, trends, meaningful insights from various different sources (historical data of equipment, predictions from models, etc.) and, as an important support tool for decision making at the heart of the Digital Factory solutions.

The Data Analytics primary responsibility is to apply strong expertise in data analysis, contextualization, active listening to clearly understand customer request, problem solving, visualization techniques and strong communication to design, prototype, and build the next-generation analytics engines and services that solve the Asset’s operational challenges.

As such, the Data Analytics is accountable for the quality of the insights and their overall outputs as part of the broader digital solution development team. Key accountabilities include:

  • Understanding business problems and designing end-to-end analytics use cases
  • Developing complex analysis and visualizations that drive innovation throughout the organization. This may include improving equipment performance, enhanced scheduling, optimization opportunities, anomaly detection, etc.
  • Conducting advanced statistical analysis to provide actionable insights, identify trends, and measure performance
  • Collaborating with model developers to implement and deploy scalable solutions
  • Collaborating with product software teams to ensure model functionality using cloud solutions and monitoring the quality and effectiveness of the models in operations.
  • Providing thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and collaborating with industry leaders

About You

  • Deep knowledge of analytics techniques, statistics, optimization, or related field as evident through a tertiary higher education degree and several years of industry experience
  • Experience working with large data sets, simulation/ optimization, and distributed computing tools
  • Experience in working with large datasets, relational databases (SQL), and distributed systems (Hadoop, Hive)
  • Excellent analytics techniques, including problem solving, hypothesis validation and developing high complex visualization dashboards in Power BI
  • Experience Proficiency in R, Python additional knowledge of other statistical software (SPSS, RapidMiner, etc.) is helpful
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques, data mining, machine learning (regression, decision trees, clustering, random forests, generalized linear models, etc.) is highly appreciated
  • Excellent scientific computing skills, including creativity in the design and development of efficient algorithms.
  • Experience or interest in working in a team environment, with ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Evidence of well-developed written and verbal communications skills. Ability to communicate technical contents to non-technical audience.
